RENA
Rena was not only our first Quiz Bowl winner, but was
our first 4-time champion, which sorta made her the A.J. Foyt of the
Town Meeting Room for the longest time. Of course, she gets a little
help from her boys, Butch88 and Dan32, but HEY!, we won't hold THAT
against her.
|
DREAMER
Dreamer has always been a formidable competitor, having
racked up an impressive 14 victories in the U.S. History Quiz
Bowl. Dreamer is always one of the ones to beat any time she gets
online. As befitting her achievement
we were able to get a recent graduation photo which
seemed appropriate to the theme of the U.S. History Quiz Bowl. P.S. It
really IS recent, as of 05/10/03. But we're NOT going to tell you her
age. |
|
MATT
One night Matt said, "Come on, Rena! Let ME play
once." And so she did, and so HE did, and so Matt became one of our Quiz
Bowl Champs. Interestingly, Matt's second victory came by way of a tie
with another previous winner, Thunder Kiss (see below) Matt has, since,
become a 12-time winner. By the way, you might want to make copies of
this photo because it's one of the few times you'll see Matt NOT wearing
a baseball cap. |
PENGUINMAN000
Penguinman000, Penguin, Pengy, Pengy-poo, or WHATEVER
you want to call him is another one of our Champs. He'd probably win
more than he does if he could remember what time the Quiz Bowl starts.
(see Ray roll his eyes) |
|
BLIZZARD
Blizzard is always a contender. And WOE to the Quiz
Master who tries to "cop out" on doing the show. Blizzard is the FIRST
to lead the crowd in a hand-clapping, foot-stomping rebellion. Blizzee
got her 2nd and 7th victories during the annual "Halloween" editions of
the Quiz Bowl, which proves she knows her "spooks" as well has her
politics. Blizzard has shown her mettle by winning the crown 31 times. |
DAX
Well, what can we say? Although Dax is usually very
busy being a High Muckety-Muck at Fool Moon, he takes time out to enjoy
water sports, and he ALWAYS makes it a point to drop in on the Town
Meeting Quiz bowls when he can. Dax is the all-time Quiz Bowl champion
with 55 victories. His
reputation is such that, even if you don't win the contest outright, if
you can outscore Dax on a night he doesn't win you feel like you've accomplished a major victory.
(By the way; that's not really Dax...heh, heh, heh. Click
here
to see the REAL Dax.) |
|
THUNDER
KISS
As one of our "teen" players to chalk up victories in
the Quiz Bowl, Thunder Kiss proved that not ALL American school students
sleep through their history classes. Thunder is a force to be reckoned
with because, like your Quiz Bowl Host, his head is a veritable font,
overflowing with useless knowledge. TK has won four times: his second
victory being a tie with Town Meeting regular, Matt, his 3rd victory was
a tie with another Quiz Bowl regular, Moretuna, and his 4th being a
4-way tie with a mob. |
JUBE
Jube is another strong contender, but for the
longest time it was a case of "always the bridesmaid, never the bride."
THEN, on the night she was grousing about never winning, whuh HO...she
pulls out a victory. (Oh...uh, Jube. You can send me the 20 dollars as a
check OR money order, whichever is more convenient) ;) |
|
MOOF
Moof recorded a victory in the Quiz Bowl after weeks
of showing up during the last 5 minutes of the contest and asking, "Am I
on time, am I on time?" Moof actually showed up for the start of a Quiz
Bowl and walked away with a hard-fought win. Since becoming a regular at
the Quiz Bowl, Moof has walked away with 4 more victories to become a
5-time winner of the Quiz Bowl. Hey...that showing up on time really
pays off, huh?
|
JENNYK
JennyK came by the room for the first time, asked
about the Quiz Bowl and decided to stay and compete. She's glad she did.
In her first outing, Jenny racked up a win in a tough fight for the
title of Quiz Kid.
|
|
PENNYLANE
Pennylane pulled off her first victory against some
rough competition. And "yes" in answer to your question we DID sit
around singing Beatles hits while waiting for the contest to begin. She
pulled off a 2nd victory in the Quiz Bowl - Christmas edition, and her
3rd victory on Ground Hog Day. Penny has a thing for holidays, you
think?
|
| CRAZYHEPCAT
Talk about confidence! Crazyhepcat came to her first
"U.S. History Quiz Bowl" after having announced to everyone in the lobby
that she was going to win. And DARNED if she didn't! Here's another
youngster who showed you don't have to have been around forever to know
something about history. |
|
BETH-ANNE
Beth-Anne earned her first victory against a host of
challengers in a tight contest that saw her win by just one point. She
had been the "bride's maid" a couple of weeks before, but pulled out all
the stops to wear the crown of Quiz Kid. |
MORETUNA
After participating week after week, Moretuna came
into her own with in hard fought battle during our "Winter Olympics"
edition of the Quiz Bowl. She put out a Gold Medal Performance and,
representing Canada, shared the top of the podium with another Quiz Bowl
Rival. (see below) Since then Moretuna has gone on to chalk up a total
of 11 Quiz Bowl championships. |
|
TUTTI
It was during the special "Winter Olympics" Quiz Bowl
that Tutti came to the front of the pack and brought GOLD home to
Australia. She shared the top of the podium with the Canadians (see
above) but it did nothing to tarnish the thrill of victory and the agony
of her feet. :) Tutti's second victory came in a
contest based upon the American "Old West." What a well-rounded girl,
that Tutti, huh? |
| 1968J
1968j dropped in for the first time to our chat room
while we were holding a special Presidential Firsts quiz. It was a tough
one and he hung on in a 3- & 4-way tie for 1st place throughout the
contest, pulling ahead for the win on the next-to-last question.
|
|
MYSTIC
After months of struggle, months of pain, months of
gnashing her teeth and finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Mystic scored an
impressive victory in the Quiz Bowl on the first Saturday in April. The
thought of Spring time must have inspired her. Mystic has won the crown
2 times. Oh, and uh, in case you were wondering...Mystic
(Psst!) The one over there ===========>
is the one on the top. We don't know the name of the one below, and
quite frankly, we're scared to ask. :( |
PEACHES86442
We had another case of a first time player who just
happened to be in the Town Meeting Room when we announced it was time
for the Quiz Bowl. Peaches said, "Oh goody! I LIKE quizzes." (or
something like that) and went on to win.
|
|
JOKUL
Here is another case of one who worked and strived at
the Quiz Bowl, finishing in the money but never getting the brass ring
until one night when the moon was full and the wind was blowing out of
the East (or some such nonsense.) Jokul has earned a total of 37 Quiz
Kid titles and on any given Saturday night, he is a force with which to
be reckoned. We are happy to have his name among our pantheon of
winners.
|
TIGS
As you can tell by the picture, Tigs is another one
of our "junior" Quiz Bowl participants who, apparently, has done MORE in
History Class than just toss spitballs. He got his first Quiz Bowl
victory in a hard-fought tie with long-time "Townie" Blizzard. His
second victory came in a tie with newcomer, Lady Wic (see below) |
|
PHATTYMAMAJAMMA
Phatty's participation in the Quiz Bowl was a
turn-around of the "Little Engine that Could" story. The whole contest
she kept repeating, "I know I can't, I know I can't I
know I can't..." But she could...and did come up a co-winner with
Ambereyes (see below) to record her first Quiz Bowl title. . o O (The
young-uns are taking over. What's going on here?) |
|
|
AMBEREYES
Ambereyes dropped in one Saturday evening and
answered questions. That's pretty much the story. She just sat
there quietly answering and answering and answering and...well you
get the point. Fortunatey, Ambereyes answered enough of those
questions correctly to share the winner's podium with
Phattymamajamma (see above) as she became a 1st-time winner of the
Quiz Bowl. Her 2nd victory was as part of a 4-way tie. She has
gone on to become a 21-time winner of the Quiz Bowl.
|
|
|
SUPERWOMAN1487
LQQK! Up in the sky it's a....(oh never mind; that's
been done before) BUT, with a whoosh, Superwoman1487 came soaring
through the Town Meeting Room and chalked up her win. Here was another
example of a 1st-timer blasting past the "regulars" to score the
victory. :) |
 |
| ASTRO
Astro took part in the "U.S. History Quiz
Bowl--Independence Day Edition" on 7/6/02 and was part of a 4-way tie
with Ambereyes (above) and Bones197 (below). Talk about a mob finish! ;)
|
BONES197
Ol' Bones has been by several times in the past, but
during our "Independence Day" quiz bowl he came away with his first win
in a massive photo finish with 3 other folks. Search around (It ain't
hard) and you find the other 3 names. ;)
|
LADY
WIC
Here's another case of a 1st-time participant to the
Quiz Bowl who just happens to walk away with the brass ring. Lady Wic
was on top of the situation in a "Popular Culture" Quiz which means she
knew a bunch about old music, old movies, and old TV shows. (Probably
watches Nick-at-Nite while chatting, you think?) ;) |
KIMMIEKAY
Although she had only dropped
in a couple of times before, KimmieKay decided to put her heart and mind
to the Quiz Bowl just one time, and came up a winner in a tie with a
couple of "old hands," Moretuna and Ambereyes. (Not that their hands are
THAT old, mind you, but just, oh never mind) Since then Kimmie has
added a solo victory to become a 2-time Quiz Kid. |
JADE
Jade has been a long time (long, long, long time)
member of Fool Moon and an old hand (we're talkin' old, old, OLD hand,
here) at participating in quizzes. But it was the night she put her mind
to the task that she came away with her first victory on the night we
set a new record for number of point-scoring competitors.
It was nearly two years later when she scored her second victory.
She finally scored a 3rd victory and immediately declared herself the
Bossa Nova. (You had to be there) Jade is now a 7-time
winner. |
|

PAMC
Pamc dropped by the Town Meeting's "Quiz
Bowl" for the first time one Saturday night, got the first question
right, and never trailed while on the way to a solid 1st victory against
tight competition. |
LOKISCHI
We knew Lokischi was fun to have around the room for
his quick wit and entertaining bon mots. But he wanted more. ("I'm not
just a sex symbol; I want to be loved for my mind, too") So he went out
and grabbed a Quiz Bowl championship in a hard-fought contest to prove
his point. Loki now has 55 victories to his credit. Way to go,
you big Italian stallion, you! |
|

BEAM ME UP
Once again, the U.S. History Quiz Bowl
celebrated a 1st-time participant taking home the grand prize and
BeamMeUp topped a field of 17 players. BeamMeUp was a relative newcomer
to the Town Meeting Room when he chalked up his win. He turned around
and, then next week, chalked up his second victory as a "co-winner" of
the crown. The "Beamer" has won a total of 3 times. |
KITTY48
Kitty48 has participated in a few Quiz Bowls, but here
breakthrough came during the big Halloween Quiz Bowl when she stood atop
the winner's podium along with ReallyNiceGuy (below) and Blizzard in a
record-breaking night. |
|

RNG
RNG (the artist former known as
ReallyNiceGuy) stayed up late to join in the Halloween Quiz Bowl and
scored a victory as one of 3 co-winners on a night when a record 30
contestants scored at least one point. His co-winners were Kitty48
(above) and Blizzard. It was truly a night to remember. |
PETERJ
Although Peterj (seen here with a favorite Christmas
Elf) was around a long time, he had only
dabbled now and then in the Quiz Bowl, until the night he got serious.
THEN he took off and never trailed in the competition as he went on to
chalk up his first Quiz Bowl victory. After that first victory, Peterj
went on to score back-to-back wins in August of 2003 and ended up with a
total of 5 wins. Peter passed away in January 2006 and will be
sorrowfully missed by the Quiz Bowlers. |
|

SKULLEN
Skullen had joined us several times in
the past and had come close to victory, but he finally broke the ribbon
the first Quiz Bowl in December to score a victory over a number of
long-time Quiz Bowl "regulars." He has gone on to become a 17-time
champion. |
|
RAMBLINGJJF
Although he had participated in a few
previous U.S. History Quiz Bowls, JJF18 hadn't been in the money until
the night the contest came down to a final 2-point question that he got
right to surge ahead and win his 1st championship by one point. His
second championship was also decided by his ability to jump on the
2-point toss up question. JJF18 had a total of 44 victories including an incredible 6
consecutive wins between 03/29 - 05/03/03. |
|

CHRONICMONKEY
ChronicMonkey was another one of those
folks who came to play in the Quiz Bowl week after week, but couldn't
seem to get the brass ring until the night I toughened up the questions
and he scored a BIG victory. That's ChronicMonkey to the right, with
his sidekick, Joe (who probably helped him with the answers) Uh...Joe
is the little one)
ChronicMonkey is a two-time holder of the Quiz Bowl crown. |
|
BOOGER
Here's a another case of a contestant who
showed up now and then to participate in the Quiz Bowl with average
results until the night he "caught fire" and walked away with his first
victory on a night when the questions were tough and others were
struggling. |
|

Mr A
Mr A (a.k.a. Atimnie and a few other
variations) was the Quiz Bowl contestant who 1st championship win also
gave him the honor of breaking JJF18's (see above) streak of 6
consecutive victories. Atimnie is a 4-time winner of the Quiz Bowl
crown. |
|
MAKAVELI
Makaveli is another one of our more youthful
competitors who has always given it his best every time he comes to the
Quiz Bowl. His first victory came with a margin of just 1/2 point.
Talk about a squeaker, huh? Since then he has gone on to become a
6-time champion. |
|
STORMYLISA
StormyLisa has been a regular participant in the Quiz
Bowls and persistance finally paid off when she came up with her first
victory in a contest with tough questions and even tougher scoring. |
BEAR505
Bear505 was a regular at the Quiz Bowl every Saturday
night, but seemed destined to be the bridesmaid, never the bride. That
is, until the night he outlasted a tough field of contenders to chalk up
his first victory in a Quiz about TV advertising from the past. (Boy
spends WAY too much time in front of the tube) |
|
IRVING
Irving is one of those folks you don't often see in
the Town Meeting Room, but he's often there in spirit. That's because
he's the other half (so to speak) of Ambereyes, his wife, who IS
often seen in the TM Room winning Quiz Bowls. So I told you THAT story
to tell you THIS one. One night, Ambereyes let Irving out of his box
and darned if he didn't win the Quiz Bowl for himself. Go figure! |
ROSERUTH
If ever there was a story of "Always the Bridesmaid;
Never the Bride" it was the story of RoseRuth. But gosh darn, after
months and months of trying and coming in 2nd a bunch, RoseRuth finally
stood atop the winner's podium clutching her Gold Medal and the title of
Quiz Kid as tears filled the auditorium to the strains of the
Connecticut State Anthem. Or something. It was a night to remember.
RoseRuth is now a 29-time winner. |
|
PHALCON
We rarely concentrate on a single contest, but
Phalcon's performance in his first winning effort came during an Olympic
History Quiz Bowl where he scored 19 points including 6 bonus points.
The next closest competitor that night scored a total of 5 points. Phalcon
is a 6-time winner of the Quiz Bowl title. |
LAWMAGE
Once again it was the old, old story. "Always
the bridesmaid, never the bride." Lawmage had come in 2nd again
and gain. And then that special night arrived and Lawmage stood
upon the Gold Medalist's podium having gotten his act together and
pulling off a long-awaited victory. (Is THAT dramatic or what?)
He's now a 3-time winner. |
MYRDDIN
Myrddin had the honor of getting his first victory
with the New Year's 2005 edition of the U.S. History Quiz Bowl.
His was a battle that came down to a one-point win at the end. |
BUD
Bud secured his first Quiz Bowl crown in a tough
contest that saw the winner scoring only 10 points. To give you
perspective, the 2nd place finishers had 7 points and 5 points was good
enough for 3rd. |
JACKDIDDLEY
Jack "Everybody's-Favorite-Brit" Diddley was often the
bride's maid; never the bride. But then came that magical evening
when JackDiddley got his first Quiz Bowl win and got to throw the
bouquet, or sip champagne from a slipper, or whatever it is that
1st-time winners do. His 2nd win saw him run naked down the
hallways, screaming. It was awful. |
Deifan
Deifan was still relatively new to the Quiz Bowl when
he won his first victory in a tie with RoseRuth. But this first
victory was well-deserved since Deifan had fought tenaciously every week
before scoring that first win. His 2nd victory came the very next week
in, coincidentally ANOTHER tie with RoseRuth. We decided they
could no longer sit next to each other. To date Deifan is a 13-time
Quiz Bowl champ. |
KELLYLYNNCAKES
After only a short time, KellyLynnCakes quickly
established herself as a welcome contestant at the U.S. History Quiz
Bowl. Her dedicated to purpose paid off in a rare 3-way tie for
her first Quiz Bowl Victory. Kelly is a 13-time winner of the Gold
Medal. |
NEPHETS
Nephets is one of our faithful Aussies who keeps the
barbie supplied with shrimp or some such nonsense, but he also helps
keep the Quiz Bowl fun. After months and months of coming up
short, Nephets struck gold becoming the 3rd Aussie to win the U.S.
History Quiz Bowl. His win was part of a record breaking 4-winner
night. |
SISTERSARA
SisterSara was another long-time player who was always
the bridesmaid, never the bride. She had so many 2nd place
finishes we thought of engraving her name on the Silver Medalist podium
out of pity. But then came the night when she became part of the
aforementioned record setting 4-winners night to chalk up her first
official victory. Sistersara is now a 3-time winner. Slow
but sure wins the race, huh? |
TATSUONE
Tatsuone was a relative newcomer to Fool Moon (1½ months) who had only
stumbled into the Town Meeting Room a handful of times when he chalked
up his first Quiz Bowl victory. This did nothing to endear him to
those who have tried for years and haven't won yet, but what the heck.
A win, is a win, is a win. |
|

AROHA
Aroha was rather new to the Town Meeting Room when she
scored her FIRST Quiz Bowl victory in a record-breaking night that saw 5
co-winners with 3 first-time winners in that number. Truly a memorable
evening. |
PURPLEDRAGON
Purple Dragon was the 2nd of the 3 first-time
winners on the record-breaking 5-winner night that took place on October
16, 2005. Purple Dragon was not only a rather new room regular, but
she's also the sister of Aroha, mentioned above. You think they
were cheating. Hmmm? |
|
DANCINGPENDRAGON
DancingPenDragon was the 3rd person to rack up a
1st-time win, all the more remarkable since this was the dragon's FIRST
time to participate in the Quiz Bowl. The moral of the story must
have been that the question were too easy, OR your humble Quiz Master
must have taken one hell of a bribe. You think? |
|
MENDY
Mendy is another faithful competitor at
the Quiz Bowl who spent months competing in the contest before gaining
her first victory in a hard-won fight. Surprisingly, her victory
came is a contest completely devoid of question about Louis Chevrolet.
(Inside joke, folks! You had to have been there)
Mendy is now a 2-time winner. |
|

Jules
Jules was a newcomer to the Town Meeting Room when she became part of a
record-breaking event. On 04/22/06 she was one of 7 Gold Medalists
standing upon the Quiz Bowl winners podium. She chalked up
her 2nd victory two weeks later to stand on the Gold Medalist's podium by
herself. Jules now holds title to 5 victories. |
|
DairyAir
DairyAir has
been around Fool Moon a while, but he only got serious about the Quiz
Bowl after the 1st of the year. His dedication finally paid off
with a victory. Currently he's a 2-time winner. |
|
BLACKPRINCE
BlackPrince is another of
our non-American Quiz Bowl regulars who joins us from Israel in the wee
hours (his, not ours) He's also another who can say he beat the
yankees at their own history when he scored his first Quiz Bowl gold
medal. |
AINT
After striving for weeks to
get into the hierarchy of Quiz Bowlers, Aint proved his mettle with a
decisive win over the veterans to stand on the Gold Medal Podium for the
first time. (Ain't nuthin' odd about Aint) |
|
NASCARLIZARD
NascarLizard scored her
first Quiz Bowl victory on a night that saw two first-time gold
medalists. That first win was a tough one where 2nd place saw a
6-way tie. |
|
SUPERBEE
SuperBee comes from a family of Quiz Bowlers (slash) car lovers, as the
name would indicate. Along with NascarLizard, above, he was the
other first-timer on the gold medalists podium in a tightly contested
Quiz Bowl. Oh, the family part? He's Jokul's and Deifan's
brother-in-law, although he probably would have paid plenty to keep
that part under wraps. |
|
CY CLICK
CyClick was becoming known
as one of the weekly faithful when he scored his first victory in a
contest that featured some of the toughest questions of the year.
CyClick is a two-time winner of the big prize. |
WINDDANCER
WindDancer has become a
regular in the Town Meeting Room during the week, but she's especially
active every Saturday night for the U.S. History Quiz Bowl. Her
first victory was a hard won effort. Her second victory came in a
hard-fought tie with Dax. |
|
STONE
After spending a couple
of years popping in and out of the Quiz Bowl without ever hazarding a
guess about anything, Stone suddenly came out of his coma and after only
a handful of serious contest, emerged victorious after having placed 2nd
the week before. |
LIZBETH
Always the bridesmaid, never
the bride. Lizbeth had participated in the Quiz Bowl for weeks and
had chalked up more second place finishes than a person ought to have to
endure. That is, until that night when she battled her foes to the
bitter end and stood atop the winner's podium with the Gold Medal
firmly clutched in her hand. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.
OK, so I made some of that up, but it made for an exciting story, didn't
it? Oh yeah. Lizbeth has a total of 4 victories. |
|
SNACKER
Snacker has proved to be one
of our better imports, a young man from Switzerland, now living in the
U.S. He's been a regular at the U.S. History Quiz Bowl and finally
achieved the Gold Medal in a hard fought battle that saw a bonus-point
question decide the match. 4 other contestants were breathing down his
neck. We're a kinky bunch. Snacker is now a 3-time winner. |
|
Cy_Click
Cy_Click participated in our
Quiz Bowls for over a year and a half before chalking up his first gold
medal performance. Perhaps he suffered a handicap being
perpetually positioned between Blizzard and Dax, at least on my
alphabetically arranged score pad. (They did get a Bronze and
Silver that night). Still, victory is sweet and the Clickster
found himself in on the top podium again a few weeks later. To
date he's a 3-time winner. |
